Dear Dani,
I am writing to share a few thoughts I have had about this whole process of your scriptwriting course. I enjoyed thoroughly the process of writing, and of overcoming the obstacles I had in doing so. Then to get the bonus of sharing my work with others, for it being so well received, and simply to make others laugh is an absolute dream, simply remarkable. It was directed and acted in such a consummately professional way.
This course has been beneficial for my mental wellbeing; it passed my time productively; developed in me a new skill; developed a potential outlet for income/career post release genuinely (I don’t say that lightly.) This is a genuine new passion of mine. I will look to develop my skills and my creative voice over my remaining years in prison to give me a hopeful foundation for post-release times.
This course, and especially your consummately thorough teaching, your inimitable, but wonderfully loveable and effective teaching persona, and the genuine and thorough encouragement of us, were not luck. They come from a human who genuinely has a passion for the arts. That is clear. They come from a human who is interested in opportunities for others. That is clear. They come from a human who cares about people. That is clear. It is also in stark contrast to all the many who seem to struggle to get past our convictions. I do not deny I have done wrong yet to know and experience that people like yourself don’t only not close doors to us but actually open many (and ones I never thought possible in the circumstances) is simply wonderful.
I cannot express enough how much you have helped me, how much this course has done, but I hope this letter goes some way to trying to dictate that feeling. I have prayed for a long time to find opportunities open to me with and by people who are willing to actually help individuals to heal and reform, not just expect somebody to do it (i.e., I want offenders to rehabilitate, but I want it done somewhere else. The reality is that one needs to reform somewhere to prevent any more pain in the future. Often that needs assistance.
I will be forever grateful and not forget what you have done for me in my life.
Thank you. May God bless you. Take care and all the best with your future endeavours.
Joshua.
